Some of you may know that we have two companies under the AMDG “umbrella” – AMDG Financial, a fee-only, fiduciary financial advisory firm, and AMDG Business Advisory Services, which offers tax preparation and accounting services. We’re all housed in the same historic building at 218 S. Main Street in Plymouth, and many of us have worked together for so long, we might as well be family. (Come to think of it, since my wife, Lisa, works with us, some of us really are family!)
For us, it’s a big deal when someone new joins the team – something that’s happening more frequently as we grow – so, we’re going to start introducing our team members to you in our blog each month. That way, when you meet us in person, you’ll feel like part of the family, too. This month, I’m happy to introduce the newest member of the AMDG team, Mark Evenson. Mark joined AMDG Business Advisory Services in January as a tax specialist, and he’ll be helping out on the AMDG Financial side as well, assisting our clients with their tax-planning needs.
Mark brings approximately 18 years of experience to his new position. Most recently, he served as branch manager at Community Financial Credit Union in Plymouth, where he led a 17-member team of sales and service professionals managing over $230 million in assets. He also has a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University in business, and a master’s degree in finance from Walsh College. Here are some excerpts from an interview we did recently with Mark:
What attracted you to AMDG Business Advisory Services and AMDG Financial?
I have had a long-term passion for tax work. I met Wayne in 2014 and got to know him personally as well as AMDG. I found it was a good fit for a few reasons. I love the challenge of helping clients work through tax situations, it’s a great culture fit, and I have also spent over 15 years working in the Plymouth community, so this career change has allowed me to maintain my business relationships.
We talk a lot about “Good Stewardship.” What does good stewardship mean to you?
Good stewardship is taking responsibility for ourselves and our clients. It is maintaining the highest ethical standards and good moral character.
What would you like our clients to understand about your approach to taxes?
I like to look at taxes from a holistic approach. Understanding my clients’ tax situation in detail is a very important part of understanding their whole financial lives. This gives us not only the opportunity to prepare their returns, but also to look at their full financial picture and manage their financial portfolios as well.
What is a fun thing about you that most people might not know?
I grew up in Livonia and for years my mother had a garden at Greenmead. We used to go with her every weekend to water, weed, and pick our vegetables. I have continued that tradition with my children. My family and one of our friends rent a plot every year and take our kids to help work the “farm” and grow our own vegetables.
As you can imagine from Mark’s answers, outdoor activities are an important part of his life. In addition to gardening, he enjoys taking his wife and two children to Lake St. Claire to spend summer days on their boat. When the snow falls, Mark can still be found outside, hitting the slopes with ski trips to Utah. And, like the rest of us in the AMDG family, Mark is a strong believer in giving back to the community. In fact, he served on the board of directors of the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce for seven years, and even took a turn as president of the organization. Mark continues to give back by spending his time serving as Vice President and the Finance chair for the Novi Educational Foundation.
We are excited to bring Mark’s talent and experience to our organization, and I hope you’ll have an opportunity to meet Mark soon. Please feel free to reach out to him for questions about tax prep and tax planning. You can reach Mark at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by calling our office, at 734-737-0866. Welcome, Mark!
